Fixing the "Can't Install Stremio App on Firestick" Problem

I saw some users asking about not being able to install the Stremio app on Firestick—usually getting errors like "App Not Installed" or "Unknown Error."

I recommend sideloading the app (instead of using the Google Play Store, since sometimes it can't find the Stremio app for download). The installation steps are at the end.

Here are the possible reasons:

1. Not enough storage space on your Firestick. I recommend having 2GB - 5GB of free space. Even if you manage to install the app, you won't be able to watch videos if there's not enough space.

2. Wrong version (this is the main reason). For Firestick, I recommend installing Stremio Android TV 1.6.9 ARM APK, or an earlier version. Newer versions might not be compatible with Firestick. I've tested this myself—version 1.6.9 works on Firestick.

3. VPN issues. If you have a VPN turned on, it might cause the installation to fail. Sometimes VPNs cause network instability, and during the download process (from the Google Play Store), this can easily lead to download failures. That's why I recommend sideloading.

Sideloading Steps

First, you need to enable your Firestick to install apps from unknown sources. Here's how:

Enable Developer Mode:

  • Go to Settings -> My Fire TV (or About/Device Info).
  • In the About section, click on the device name 7 times until you see "You are now a developer."

Enable the Permission:

  • Go back one level and enter Developer Options.
  • Find and select Install unknown apps.

Then:

  • Install "Send Files to TV" on both your phone and Firestick (you can find it in the Google Play Store).
  • Download the APK file on your phone. (Download link: see above)
  • Make sure your phone and TV are on the same Wi-Fi network, then "send" from your phone and "receive" on the TV.
  • Once received, use a file manager to open and install it.

And you're done! If it still doesn't work, try downloading a few different versions. Don't install from the Google Play Store on Firestick—download all the versions you want to try onto your phone and transfer them to your Firestick via Send Files to TV. 90% chance it'll work!
