Fix Stremio “Unable to Load Stream” on Samsung TV

Start with a full cold restart: close Stremio, turn off the Samsung TV, unplug it briefly, and then restart the TV and your router before trying again. If Settings still shows Stremio Server: Offline, update the TV and Stremio app, then reinstall Stremio only after the less destructive checks below.

The reported case affects Stremio Theater v1.13.1 on a Samsung TV running Tizen 9. Streams work on other devices, but the TV reports Unable to load stream or Unable to fetch stream, followed by Server Offline in Stremio’s settings.

What the error probably means

This pattern suggests that the Tizen app is losing access to the Stremio service it needs for playback. It does not necessarily mean that the entire TV is offline. A TV can remain connected to the internet while a specific app process, service connection, or cached session stops responding.

Because the reported problem occurs with multiple addons while the same account works on other devices, it is less likely to be a single-addon outage. However, that does not prove a specific app defect or server failure. Community addons are independently operated, so an addon-specific problem remains possible if only certain stream choices fail.

1. Confirm that this is the Server Offline problem

Open Stremio and try one stream that you are authorized to access. After the error appears:

  1. Open Stremio’s settings.
  2. Check the Stremio server status shown by the app.
  3. Note whether it changes to Offline immediately after pressing Play.
  4. Test the same account and title on another supported device if one is available.

If the other device works while the Samsung app remains offline, concentrate on the TV app and its network path. Reconfiguring every addon is unlikely to help at this stage.

2. Cold-restart the Samsung TV

Using the remote to turn off the screen may leave parts of the TV software suspended. Perform a full power cycle instead:

  1. Exit Stremio.
  2. Turn off the TV.
  3. Disconnect the TV from power briefly.
  4. Reconnect it and wait for Tizen to finish starting.
  5. Open Stremio and check the server status before playing anything.

This is safer than immediately removing the app and may recover a stalled background process. If the server changes to Offline again after one playback attempt, continue below.

3. Restart the network and restore automatic DNS

Restart the modem or router, allow the internet connection to return fully, and then restart the TV. In the Samsung network settings, confirm that the TV reports an active internet connection.

If you entered a custom DNS address while troubleshooting, return DNS configuration to Automatic unless your network specifically requires a manual value. The affected user reported that changing DNS did not solve the problem, so repeatedly switching public DNS providers is unlikely to be useful.

Also temporarily disable network-level filtering that could affect Stremio, such as:

  • Router parental controls
  • Ad-blocking or DNS-filtering services
  • VPN routing configured on the router
  • Firewall rules created specifically for the TV

Re-enable security or filtering features after the test. Do not leave the network unnecessarily exposed.

4. Test a different connection

If practical, connect the TV to a different trusted network, such as a temporary mobile hotspot, and test Stremio again. Be aware that video playback can use substantial mobile data.

The result helps narrow down the fault:

Test result What it suggests Next step
Stremio works on the alternate network Home router, DNS, filtering, or ISP path may be involved Review router controls and restore default DNS
Server remains Offline on both networks Tizen app state or TV software is more likely Update and reinstall the app
Only one addon fails The independent addon may be unavailable Test another legitimate source or contact its operator
Other devices work, but the TV never does The issue is probably specific to the Samsung installation Collect details and report the Tizen problem

A hotspot test is diagnostic, not necessarily a permanent solution.

5. Check the TV clock and install updates

Make sure the Samsung TV’s date, time, and time zone are correct, preferably using automatic time synchronization. An incorrect clock can interfere with secure service connections.

Next, check for both types of updates:

  1. Open the Samsung TV’s software update section and check for a Tizen firmware update.
  2. Open Samsung Apps, find Stremio, and check whether an app update is available.
  3. Restart the TV after installing any update.

Menu names can differ by Samsung model and region. Do not install firmware from unofficial sources or firmware intended for another television model.

6. Sign out and refresh the account session

If Stremio remains responsive enough to open account controls, sign out and sign back in. This can refresh an expired or damaged session without deleting the app.

Before signing out, confirm that you know the account credentials and have access to the required sign-in method. After signing back in, check the server indicator before selecting a stream.

7. Reinstall Stremio as a temporary recovery step

If the server remains offline, remove Stremio through Samsung’s normal app management interface, restart the TV, and install it again from Samsung Apps. Avoid unofficial packages.

Reinstallation may clear damaged local app data, but the evidence for this particular report is limited: the affected user said reinstalling restored playback for approximately one stream, after which the same error returned. That makes reinstalling a useful diagnostic or temporary workaround—not a confirmed permanent fix.

If the error returns immediately after a clean installation, repeatedly reinstalling is unlikely to address the underlying cause.

What worked for affected users

The only reported workaround in this case was reinstalling the Samsung TV app. According to the user, playback worked once after reinstallation and then Unable to load stream and Server Offline returned.

No lasting fix was confirmed in the report. A cold restart, update, alternate-network test, and clean reinstall are therefore the safest sequence while determining whether the failure is tied to the current Tizen app build, the TV environment, or the network.

When to report the issue

Report the problem to Stremio if it continues across two different networks after a clean reinstall, especially when the same account and streams work on another device. Include:

  • Samsung TV model code
  • Tizen version
  • Stremio Theater version
  • Exact error wording
  • Whether Settings shows Server Offline
  • Whether an alternate network changes the result
  • Whether reinstalling helps, and for how long
  • Approximate time the failure occurred
  • A photo of the error and server status, if possible

Do not publish account credentials, authentication codes, IP addresses, or private addon configuration. Until an app update or confirmed fix is available, using another supported device is the safest fallback; a full Samsung TV factory reset is not justified by the available evidence.

FAQ

Does Server Offline mean my Samsung TV has no internet?

Not necessarily. The TV may still be online while Stremio cannot reach or run the service needed for playback. Use Samsung’s network test and another app to check the TV’s general connection.

Should I keep changing DNS servers?

No. A custom DNS change did not help in the reported case. Restore automatic DNS and use an alternate-network test to determine whether the home network is involved.

Is an addon causing the error?

One addon can fail independently because community addons are operated separately from Stremio. However, failures across multiple addons combined with Server Offline on only one Samsung TV point more strongly toward the TV app or its connection path.
